Manchester United And Liverpool To Fight Over David Villa - Report

Label: ,

Manchester United and Liverpool are to test the resolve of Valencia and launch a bid for their star player David Villa, according to a report in The Independent.

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is keen to partner Villa with Spanish international team-mate Fernando Torres, and is planning to Invest the money gained by selling Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid by bringing the forward to Anfield.

Sir Alex Ferguson, for his part, had claimed his summer spending was over but has apparently reconsidered, believing his squad may be exposed should Michael Owen pick up an injury this season.

The Red Devils are planning to discuss a potential deal with Valencia before the two sides meet for a friendly on Wednesday. It is believed a bid of £25 million could tempt Los Che to sell their prime asset.

It is reported that Ferguson is also interested in acquiring creative midfielder David Silva from Valencia.

If Liverpool miss out on Villa, they will then switch their attentions to firming up their interest in Roma's Alberto Aquilani.

Real Madrid Insure Cristiano Ronaldo's Legs For €100m

Label:

Real Madrid have protected themselves in the event of Cristiano Ronaldo suffering a serious injury by insuring the Portuguese superstars’ legs for the grandiose sum of €100m.

Sunday newspaper The World reports that the former Manchester United man, who became a record signing following his €94m switch to the Bernabeu, has been given unique treatment in keeping with his importance to the side, and that Los Blancos acted quickly to ensure that they would be compensated in the event of Ronaldo being unable to play.

The 24-year old recently picked up a knock and the injury to his knee was quickly assessed by club doctors, who gave the player the all-clear.

Ronaldo’s purchase came as part of an unprecedented summer of spending by the Spanish club, which has also included the acquisitions of Kaka, Karim Benzema and Raul Albiol.

However, it has been the arrival of Ronaldo that has been most celebrated by the clubs’ followers, and Los Merengues have now acted to ensure their investment is suitably protected.

Lets just hope that Kaka's legs don't feel overlooked.

Inter Agree Deal For Real Madrid's Wesley Sneijder - Report

Label:

Real madrid have agreed a deal to transfer Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder to Italian side Inter according to reports from Italy.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that an initial loan deal has been agreed between the two clubs, with the Spanish side receiving €4m, with the Serie A champions having an option to make the transfer permanent for a fee of €18m.

Sneijder’s future at the Bernabeu has been in doubt since the return of Florentino Perez and his array of new signings, and the player himself has expressed his displeasure at his clubs exuberant spending, forcing him further down the pecking order.

A number of European sides are thought to have been interested in the 25-year old, but it is thought that Jose Mourinho has swooped to land the former Ajax man.

Sneijder joined Real Madrid in 2007 for a fee of €27m, and helped Los Blancos retain their La Liga crown, but toiled last season as his side were overshadowed by Barcelona’s imperious treble-winning campaign.

It is believed that the player must now agree terms with Inter in order to conclude the deal, and the transfer could be concluded in the next few days.

Liverpool Want €35M 'Plus Five' From Real Madrid For Xabi Alonso - Report

Label:

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is today reported as having handed in an official transfer request to his club, as his proposed switch to Real Madrid edges closer to becoming a reality.

High-profile Spanish journalist Guillem Balague has told Sky Sports News today that the Spanish giants are once again talking to the Reds about the transfer, though there is a significant disparity between each club's valuation of the player.

"Real Madrid and Liverpool are talking about the future of the player," Balague said. "There's been an offer made by Real Madrid of €25 million which, funnily enough, is inferior to the offer made about three weeks ago, the last time they talked when there was a fax with an offer of €27 million.

"Now it's 25, and Liverpool are asking for €35 million, plus five (million). So there is still a big difference between what Real Madrid are offering and what Liverpool want.

"But the news is both clubs are talking for the first time in three weeks."

Balague also intimated that the process of the move was likely to be quick, with Liverpool in particular wanting the matter resolved as soon as possible. Now that Los Blancos have concluded the deal taking Gabriel Henize to Olympique de Marseille, they will begin to move with more alacrity regrading Alonso, the reporter feels.

Manchester United To Tempt Sergio Aguero From Atletico Madrid - Report

Label:

Premier League champions Manchester United are set to re-ignite their interest in Argentine wonder kid Sergio Aguero, and reports suggest that they will test Atletico Madrid resolve with a substantial bid.

The 21-year old had another successful season in La Liga with Los Colchoneros, partnering Diego Forlan in attack for the Champions League qualifiers, and has been previously been linked with a move to Real Madrid.

The English side have cash to burn following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, and The Sunday Express comments that Sir Alex Ferguson will look to the young striker as he builds his side for defending their league crown.

A bid of around €41m is expected from Old Trafford, despite Atletico frequently insisting that Aguero is not for sale at any price, but Ferguson sees Aguero as a direct replacement to Carlos Tevez and wants to boost his striking options.

The Red Devils are also interested in Valencia winger David Silva, who has also been linked with rivals Liverpool, and it is believed that an offer of around €29m would be sufficient to commence negotiations with Los Che over a possible transfer.

Milan: Shevchenko Deal Almost Sealed

Label: ,

The Ukrainian hit-man is on his way out from Stamford Bridge and he has long been linked with a return to the Rossoneri. Initially the move didn’t want to take off but some pushing and shoving by Milan chief Silvio Berlusconi seems to have moved negotiations through. Ramaccioni is confident of Sheva’s return and he reveals it will be sooner rather than later. “We are close to the end of the deal,” the director told Radio Goal. “I hope these little things that have to be done are done as soon as possible.” Sheva has never managed to light up the Premier League since his £30m move there in 2006. The striker has always wanted to return to his old side, and he fuelled speculation of a move back to San Siro by meeting up with the team during their Champions League match last season against Arsenal. He also wined and dined with Carlo Ancelotti in the Russian Railways Cup. Milan have already made some great additions up front with Ronaldinho’s arrival. Shevchenko’s return is likely to propel the team towards the Scudetto this term.

Berba 'Signs' For United

Label: ,

The Sun exclusively snapped the Bulgarian hitman scribbling his signature on a Red Devils shirt proffered to him by a fan at the Sofia Airport. Berbatov has been itching for a move to Old Trafford over the last few weeks, as he is desperate to play in the Champions League once more. And while Spurs and United are deep in negotiations, a disagreement over the transfer fee means the deal remains incomplete. The 27-year-old recently attempted to quash speculation that his desire to leave was causing problems at White Hart Lane, insisting he had behaved professionally and above board despite his wish to move on. Lilywhites fans remained doubtful regarding Berbatov's commitment to the club, however, and this latest development will surely complete his transformation from hero to villain. Spurs legend Jimmy Greaves said: “Signing the United shirt is certainly cheeky. “He clearly wants to leave. If he doesn’t want to stay they should get rid of him.”

Wenger Still Wants To Sign Inler

Label: ,

Following the departure of Gilberto Silva, Aliaksandr Hleb and Mathieu Flamini, Arsenal’s priority in the summer transfer market had been to sign a top quality centre midfielder.

So far manager Arsene Wenger has not brought in any replacements, and their narrow 1-0 win over newly promoted West Bromwich Albion on Saturday suggested that the Gunners are lacking a bit punch in the middle-of-the-park.

Arsenal have been linked to Aston Villa's Gareth Barry, Xabi Alonso of Liverpool and Yaya Toure, brother of Arsenal defender Kolo, but with all these players now cup-tied from Europe, it appears unlikely that any will be arriving in North London.

According to the Daily Mail, Wenger could now be set to make one big last effort to sign Udinese midfielder Inler before the end of the transfer window on September 1.

The 24-year-old has seen his stock rise over the past 12 months after a superb debut season in Serie A, following his transfer from FC Zurich.

Inler, who has been also been associated with a move to Liverpool, Juventus and Inter, is valued at €10m..

The classy schemer has stated on a number of occasions that he wants to stay at Udinese, but it remains to be seen whether or not he can resist a move to England, should an offer be forthcoming.

Robinho Is Staying For Sure - Report

Label: ,

Marca wrote in glowing terms of Calderón's recent actions, stating that the 'presi' "has been steadfast at all times and has not yielded to the claims of the English club," namely Chelsea. It is thought that Madrid were for a time under pressure from Robinho's agent, Wagner Ribeiro, to accept the megabucks offer from Chelsea for their star winger. Indeed, Robinho was described as being unhappy at the club after being allegedly used as a bargaining chip during the Cristiano Ronaldo saga, and his being kept back from the Olympic Games merely cemented his sour mood. However it is thought that the promise of a new contract at Madrid has persuaded the ex-Santos man to stay at the club, especially given that Calderón is said to be playing hardball with Abramovich, who is sweating over the prospect of having to break the €40m barrier for a last-ditch attempt at signing Robinho - one that looks increasingly unlikely. Despite this positive report, though, Calderón has still been quieter than usual recently. It is thought that he is wounded by the failure to land Cristiano Ronaldo, not to mention earlier reports of unrest surrounding Robinho. That Marca is reporting that the winger's situation is now resolved, though, may signal a return to the public eye for the president, although if Wagner Ribeiro again surfaces to report his client's thoughts then Calderón could again be placed under pressure. While Marca writes in glowing terms, of course, one must remember that Calderón has not gone uncriticised by others this summer.

Trezeguet Fourth In Ranieri's Pecking Order?

Label: ,

The prolific Frenchman, who hit the net 20 times last term, may find himself in danger of losing his starting place in Claudio Ranieri’s side. Trezegol, who has been the first choice since moving to Juventus in 2000, has not played much during pre-season, making the odd cameo appearance against Brondby and in the Emirates Cup. This has led to speculation as well as new questions being asked regarding his position in Ranieri’s pecking order. Il Giornale claims that Trezeguet will be the fourth choice in Turin this term with the Tinkerman preferring Amauri, Vincenzo Iaquinta and Alessandro Del Piero ahead of the former Monaco man. Trezeguet has been in outstanding form for Juve over the past two seasons and there were fears he would leave last year, but he stayed on. Being fourth choice will not go down well with the striker and he may reconsider packing his bags and moving on. The striker has hit over 160 goals for the Bianconeri in 218 appearances. His contract expires in 2011 but he may be forced to leave before then.

Chelsea Make Robinho Bid

Label: ,

Chelsea have made real their interest in the 24-year-old ace despite the fact that Madrid have proved unable to land Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. Received wisdom had it that Robinho was to leave for England when the Portuguese winger came the other way, but with the Ronaldo deal failing to pan out such plans were called into question. However Robinho, who signed up at the Bernabéu from Santos in 2005, apparently has other ideas. The Brazilian international was said to be tremendously upset at his potentially being used as a bargaining chip in the Ronaldo deal and began to plot his exit from there. His being refused permission to travel to the Beijing Olympics, ostensibly due to injury, upset him further, with his agent relating that the player was reduced to tears by this development. In the aftermath of such dramas the mercurial forward told the press that he had spoken to Chelsea and could not rule out a move, even in the wake of media reports that he was to pen a new deal with the blancos. Further newspaper mumblings today indicate that Madrid coach Bernd Schuster may be willing to part with Robinho, and as such he and sporting director Predrag 'Pedja' Mijatovic will have some serious thinking to do. The Blues, for their part, are thought to have their heart set on the São Vicente-born ace as their final signing of the summer.

Roma On Suazo If Baptista Move Fails

Label: ,

The Giallorossi have been pursuing Baptista all summer as their search for a striker continues. However, his high price tag may push Roma to reconsider their options and move for a cheaper alternative. La Gazzetta Dello sport suggests that Real Madrid are not looking to let the 'Beast' leave for less than €15m. The Olimpico-based club have already made a €12m bid but this is likely to be snubbed by the Spanish champions. Inter’s David Suazo looks like an easier target and he may join Luciano Spalletti’s side. The Honduran has never managed to set the world alight at San Siro and he is likely to be moved on by Jose Mourinho. Roma are on standby and they may turn to the Nerazzurri if their offer for Baptista is turned down. Suazo is not considered a part of Mourinho’s plans in Milan and he may find himself taking a one-way trip to the Italian capital.

Juventus Step Up Rakitic Interest

Label: ,

Initially, the Old Lady was interested in Dejan Stankovic in order to bring in some creativity in midfield. However, Jose Mourinho seems to have convinced the Serbian to remain in Milan, leading Juve to look elsewhere. Claudio Ranieri has eyed Rakitic in the past but the coach’s head was turned by the possibility of signing other players. The Schalke midfielder has now reappeared on Ranieri’s radar and Tuttosport claims the Bianconeri are ready to make their move. However, it will not be easy for the Italian side as the German club will not let him leave for less than €15m. A number of midfielder’s were on Ranieri’s shortlist but they have now been ticked off. The only name which has remained seems to be that of Rakitic. The Croatian international was one of the best players during Euro 2008 and it is likely that Juve will have to fight off stiff competition from other top-sides for his signature.

Ramos: No Barça Contact About Berbatov

Label: ,

The Lilywhites' head coach explained where the north London club stand in the summer transfer dealings and hinted that he could be biding his time until the major clubs in Europe have finished buying and selling. Berbatov has been at the centre of much speculation over the summer with Manchester United and now Barcelona said to be interested, but Ramos was insistant that the Blaugrana had made no contact. "Nobody from Barça has asked me about Berbatov. There has been no movement on that front. All I know is what I read in the papers," he told Sport. "We will have to wait and see what happens. It is a question of waiting a bit more and then we wil see how things turn out. "All I can say about that is that I know nothing about it either. We have a list of forwards and we are working on that, not on what journalists or agents are saying. "Many things have been said and half of them are just not true. The representatives are doing their job at this stage. " Tottenham have been linked to a host of players since the end of last season and have already signed several big names, including Heurelho Gomes, Luka Modric, Giovani Dos Santos and David Bentley and Ramos hinted that there could be more. "If we look at things along general lines then Tottenham are the club that has been the busiest this summer," he continued. "All the major clubs will finish changing their squads next week. The Champions League starts then and some leagues too. "I do not expect many surprises, but there could be some interesting late moves." In recent days, the north London outfit are said to have been locked in talks to sign Russian star Andrei Arshavin from Zenit Petersburg, but Ramos was keen to state that no deal had yet been done. "The truth is that Tottenham have not signed Arshavin. I cannot say whether a deal is close or a long way off, but I have to repeat that we have not signed him," he added.

Barça Eye Berbatov Even If Eto'o Stays

Label: ,

Coach Pep Guardiola wants to add another forward to his line-up even if Samuel Eto'o stays and sees the creativity that the former Bayer Leverkusen goalscorer would bring as an exciting prospect, according to El Mundo Deportivo. Barça have been linked with several strikers this summer including Emmanuel Adebayor, Karim Benzema and Didier Drogba, but none of them are now likely to be moving. Instead, Eto'o has returned to the squad and has impressed in pre-season despite being told that if he can agree a deal with a new side then he can go. Guardiola has told his board that he wants more new faces and competition for the central striker would ensure that if Eto'o stays he will have to work hard to justify his place. Tottenham have made no announcement about selling Bebatov, but is a public secret that if a club meets their asking price then negotiations would quickly follow. In pre-season, the 27-year-old has given mixed displays where he has looked happy and settled in one game before appearing to be moody and distant in others. Barcelona would be a preferred option for Tottenham to sell their star striker after a spat with Manchester United over contact with the player or his agents.

Sevilla Complete Duscher Signing

Label: ,

The Argentinian midfielder will join the Andalucian club on a three-year contract after he made it clear that he wanted to join Manolo Jiménez's side. Racing were holding out for the €4m buy-out clause in Duscher's contract but accepted Sevilla's offer of €3m plus a series of bonuses that could add up to €1m during his time at the club. After several faxes had been sent, the two presidents, Francisco Pernía and Jesús María del Nido, spoke by telephone and agreed the transfer. It is a local victory for Sevilla because Real Betis were also said to be keen on secureing the services of the former Deportivo enforcer, but the player made it clear that he would only move to the white and red half of the city. Duscher spent just one season ayt El Sardinero afer joining the club from Depor last summer and was instrumental in their drive towards a UEFA Cup place. Despite having appeared in 34 games for Racing last term, the lure of moving to a side that could be challenging for the top four next term was too much to resist. After making his professional debut for Newell's Old Boys, Duscher's first move to Europe saw him join Sporting Lisbon in 1998 where he spent two seasons before signing for Depor.

Deco Hails 'Spectacular' Robinho

Label: ,

The Blues have made no secret of the interest in Robinho, who has been tipped to leave the Santiago Bernabeu ever since arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo became a possibility. Los Merengues have held firm in their desire to keep the Brazilian star thus far, having reportedly rejected a £31.5million bid from the west London club. But Deco hopes Peter Kenyon and co stump whatever is required to land Robinho, as he believes the 24-year-old will prove an excellent addition to an already star-studded squad. "He's a spectacular player," the Portugal playmaker said in The Guardian. "He's got incredible skill, has magic in his feet and is capable of anything on a football pitch. "His quality is amazing. It would be great if he joined us and he'd be made very welcome here."

Exciting

Deco has been impressing spectators with his own creative qualities during his first pre-season with Chelsea following his move from Barcelona earlier in the summer.
It has become blatantly clear already that Scolari sees his former Seleccao charge as the attacking pivot of his new team, as the 30-year-old has begun to form a potentially devestating understanding with French striker Nicolas Anelka. Fans will no doubt be encouraged by the direction the Blues' football is heading, as while they have enjoyed significant success over the past four years, the manner in which it was achieved has been less than thrilling. Deco is determined to bring sexy football back to Stamford Bridge; however, he admitted that securing victory is always the priority, even if that means playing ugly from time to time. "Everybody wants to see good football and, in fact, the first rule for winning football is to make sure we play well," said the Brazil-born midfielder. "This team has players with great quality who can play high-calibre football, good quality and exciting football. It's the responsibility of all the players, not just me, to make sure that happens but I'm more than willing to assume that role. I want to play my part in this team playing exciting football so I'll take on this job happily. "Opponents will try and stop us, and sometimes our games will not be spectacular. We must make sure we play winning football first and foremost, but we have the capability to make it exciting to watch."

Too Many Cooks?

Questions have been raised as to how Scolari will manage to fit Michael Ballack, Michael Essien, Frank Lampard and Deco in the same line-up on a regular basis, and whether it would be a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth. The Brazilian tactician has hinted with his pre-season formations that each of the aforementioned midfielders feature heavily in his plans, and Deco has no doubt that everyone will get more than enough game-time throughout the season. "I think we can play all together, but I don't really think it's important who is going to play," he added. "The important thing is that whoever is selected, plays well. "We've got so many games to come this season, and I'm sure I won't play all of them. I'll be rested from time to time but, as I said, it is about whoever is selected doing well."

Tottenham Prepare Villa Mega Bid

Label: ,

The north London club are set to finance what would be a British transfer record by selling Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United, according to reports in England. In Spain things are slightly more sober with Villa's agent having held talks on the telephone and in person with Valencia officials about an improved deal. José Luis Tamargo has been negotiating with los Ché since the 26-year-old returned from his extended holidays and it is believed that the club will announce that he has penned a new agreement. That could all mean nothing if Tottenham do make a mega offer because the Spanish side's new president, Vicente Soriano, has already hinted that the books need balancing. Interim chief Juan Villalonga stated that he would prevent both Villa and David Silva from leaving, but his time in charge was brief and now a new regime is having to work out how to handle the club's debts. Selling one of both of their star assets would not go down well with fans as has been proven by the protests that have already begun among supporters' clubs. But in England they consider that Tottenham's offer could be enough to make the Valencia hierarchy believe that a sale is justified and would give Juande Ramos the star man he has wanted all summer. Robbie Keane's departure would be quickly forgotten should the Euro 2008 star move to White Hart Lane, but Berbatov would need a replacement if he were to be allowed to leave. Villa is said to have commented in the past that he would not be adverse to joining Tottenham despite the absence of Champions League football and Tamargo has said: “David likes London and likes how Spurs play under Ramos. If they present an offer, Valencia will seriously study the subject.” The offer of around €125,000-per-week may ease the fact that the player will only have the UEFA Cup to fulfill his European ambitions, an amount that would shatter Tottenham's current wage structure. Whether Daniel Levy is really prepared to go against his principles and give one player such a huge salary could be the key to the truth of the English reports and if he is not then a new contract at Mestalla looks set to be Vila's next move.

Ronaldo: I Am Not Going To Manchester

Label: ,

The 23-year-old has opted to stay away from negotiations that were scheduled for today (Tuesday) and will now incur the wrath of the English giants. Marca, who have been central to the entire storyline linking the player with Real Madrid, believe that he has told friends: "I am not going to go to Manchester." While that is emblazoned on the paper's front page, inside Ronaldo was less forthcoming when a a reporter caught up with him as he only commented: "I cannot say anything right now." According to the story, the Madeira-born star does not want to make a statement for fear of jeopardising any chance he has of moving to the Bernabéu this summer. Instead, he is going to remain in Gerés, a small town in the north of Portugal and consider what he should do next while his representatives talk to the Red Devils. Ferguson appeared confident that the player would stay for at least one more season after a visit to Portugal last month and the English press have said that a deal could be in place for him to be sold next summer. But Madrid's persistence may well be paying off in yet another turn in the road for what has been the story of the summer so far and the next step could be an angry one from United. Rumours persist that the Spanish club may have used a trick that the previous regime at the club have carried out in the past when Luis Figo moved from Barcelona. A pre-contract agreement was signed then by the Blaugrana star that if Florentino Pérez won the election then he would move, b ut if he refused to then he would have to pay €30m to escape from the deal. That effectively meant that Figo was left with little choice and the transfer went through and stunned everyone and the same could be on the cards for Ronaldo.

United To Let Ronaldo Leave

Label: ,

Next year, that is. According to The Sun, United have become desperate in their attempts to withhold Ronaldo from the clutches of Real Madrid and are entertaining the possibility of letting the Portuguese superstar depart at the end of the upcoming season. It is understood that the Red Devils' owners, the Glazer family, are tiring of the saga and wish to wrap up the situation as quickly as possible, one way or another.
Los Merengues are offering around £70million for the 23-year-old, a world-record fee that would go some way to clearing United's mountain of debt. However, Sir Alex Ferguson remains determined to block Ronaldo's exit and, as with all transfer dealings, has the Glazers' full support in this endeavour. But a compromise could be on the horizon; one that would see a get-out clause, which would be triggered by bids of a certain amount, inserted in the player's contract. A United source reportedly said: "Sir Alex is determined he will not let Ronaldo go now, if only on principle. "But there are one or two people at United who are thinking ‘What’s the point of hanging on to him?’ when Real are ready to offer so much money. And Ronaldo will miss the start of the season in any case through injury. "One solution being looked at is for Ronaldo to stay one more season, with the guarantee he can go for an agreed fee at the end of next season."
